For the coffee-lovers that want a more flavour intense milk based espresso drink. This beverage is prepared with double ristretto shots instead of double espresso shots. This beverage is also known as the Melbourne Magic.
Ristretto comes from the Italian word to mean “restricted” or “limited” and is pulled with half the water used as compared to espresso. This results in a more “concentrated” shot of coffee and you can expect a brighter, intense flavour than compared to an espresso. Expect more acidity, sweetness and an intense flavour when enjoyed as a milk beverage.
In terms of caffeine strength, a double ristresso would have more caffeine than a single shot of espresso, and slightly less caffeine than a double espresso shot. (Caffeine is readily water soluble and is easily extracted)
